Albums you can't wait for (Discussion)

Which albums can’t you wait for? There’s a lot coming up soon, or should be.

Coldplay are about to release an EP following their successful Viva La Vida album, which should be awesome.

Green Day are reportedly working on a new album. Franz Ferdinand are about to release a new one too. Oasis just released a new album. Rumours are spreading that the Gorillaz may be back for another album or something else, who knows what they cook up. And there’s so much more going on…

The one album I can’t wait for is U2’s new one, which should be coming up in a few short months. I’ll be honest and say I didn’t like their new ones too much, after Pop they became a bit too generic for my taste. But this time they’re supposed to be taking a new direction, so hopefully their new album rocks.

Anybody else out there looking for something great?

The Coldplay EP, called Prospekt’s March, has been out for a good while. As an EP, it’s quite a good value. Sadly they put in Lost+ with rap in it, which really doesn’t fit in my opinion, but they make up for it with some good original new songs, and a great version of Life in Technicolour with lyrics, which is going to be one of my favourite songs for a while now.

Finally, No Line on the Horizon is set for March! Now all we need is a tour announcement and I’m set for U2. Also, surprisingly enough, Fleetwood Mac are going on a greatest-hits tour again. I’ve already got my tickets!

Franz Ferdinand’s 3rd album, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, has recently been released.

To be honest, it’s not as strong as their last album. However, it’s different, and in a good way. The first few tracks play to their strengths, and the later ones are refreshing attempts at newer styles. It’s a must-listen if you’re a fan of the band, but if not I’d advise you to pick up You Could Have It So Much Better first.

Ulysses, the lead single, is easily one of the better songs on the album. I’m also highly impressed with the play they’ve done with No Your Girls and then Katherine Kiss Me- the two songs are the same, but they’re completely different, and it’s a very innovative idea I thought was great. As a concept album it definitely works well.

And here’s something completely different- I was highly disappointed by U2’s first single from No Line on the Horizon. The composition was fine, but the lyrics were just silly, and that’s not something you’d expect from them at this point. I sincerely hope the rest of the album is better.

More good news! Franz Ferdinand announced plans for a quick US tour in support of “Tonight”, with a scheduled stop in Toronto, for anyone who might be interested (it’ll be coming up in May).

Also, the Grammy Awards are scheduled for this Sunday (Feb 8), if you’re interested. Coldplay seems to be topping that list, and the number of confirmed performers is slightly ridiculous.
