oLahav's Top 100 Songs Ever List- Part IV

This is Part IV of oLahav's Top 100 Songs List: songs 70-61

We're getting up there- it's part 4

This is the fourth part of my very own 100 favorite songs list. This is by no means a conclusive or significant list, so feel free to make your own competitive list. But just because I'd like to share my musical taste, I'm putting this right up on LearnHub. Cool!
if you didn't catch the first few parts, here's:
Part I
Part II
And Part III

We now go on to songs 70-61 in the list. You're welcome to post suggestions and agreements/disagreements with my choices. Keep in mind that this list still isn't in order, so these songs aren't necessarily better than the songs in earlier parts, they just occurred to me later.

Time to get on with the songs!

Song 70: Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), by Eurythmics. Not by Marilyn Manson, that version is awful. The original is clearly best- Annie Lennox is arguably one of the best female vocalists there are, and she's a true rocker with short hair and everything. Eurythmics are a bit insane, but this is a song you'll know and like for sure (even if you've never heard of the duo who perform it). Here is a sample.

Song 69: Band on the Run, Paul McCartney and Wings. This is one of Paul's great progressive songs, starting off with one tune and switching over a few times to totally different ones. Band on the Run is clearly one of his better post-Beatles song, all about escaping and whatnot. I like it, so should you. Here are Paul and the band.

Song 68: Golden Brown, from The Stranglers. Not their typical sound, granted, but this is such a good song I don't really care. It's one of those songs that can mean anything to anyone in terms of lyrics, and the composition is sweeping no matter what. You check out the video here.

Song 67: Castles Made of Sand, by the one and only Mr. Jimi Hendrix. Is it a sad song? Is it a happy song? It's kind of hard to tell. But it's certainly a powerful song. Hendrix, being one of the best guitarists of all times, can tune it down for a great piece like this one. You should listen- here.

Song 66: Join Together, The Who. The Who are slightly underrated nowadays, people seem to concentrate on the Stones and the Beatles but forget about them a bit. But Daltrey, Townshend and Co. deliver great rock. This is one of my personal favourites, Join Together, a song about singing, all together, in a huge band. Sounds like fun, right? Check it out here.

Song 65: Universally Speaking, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They have so many good songs, it's really hard to choose, but I think this one actually is my favourite from By the Way (surprisingly enough). It's got a better guitar solo than the other songs, and while it isn't as funky as Can't Stop or as melodic as the Zephyr Song, it takes the middle ground perfectly well. Here is my favourite live version from Slane Castle.

Song 64: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles. Yes, it's time for obvious song of this section. The album is considered their masterpiece, and it's sort of surprising that this funky little number about a fictional band, which is really just the Beatles in colourful costumes, would become a huge hit, but hey, why not? It's a legendary rock song. And here is the famous performance of McCartney and U2 opening Live 8. (Finally, a musical event I'm alive to watch)

Song 63: Hey You, by Pink Floyd. The Wall is one powerful album, and trying to pick a top Pink Floyd song brings you back to it every time. Hey You may not be as obvious a choice as Another Brick part 2, but I find it more emotional, more powerful, and as awesome. Here, listen for yourself.

Song 62: I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You, by the Alan Parson's Project. I told you they'd be back. This one is really their top song, at least in my book. It's got a great bass groove, and the guitar solo has to be given some credit as one of the best short solos out there. This is really a great one, you really have to get to know it if you haven't already. It's also got a cool old clip you can watch right here.

Song 61 She, Green Day. Last song of the day, it's a Green Day song. I personally think they're a great band, but I like their older, punkish stuff better than the new ones (it's the other way around with RHCP). She is a good song, since underneath the cool rock are simple yet powerful lyrics. You either like it or you don't, I guess.. I do. Here is a great live version.

Thanks for reading! Can't get enough? Check out Part V next week.

Oh Green Day. Lots of love for them. No surprise that my favourite album is the least popular (Nimrod)
