This is Part X of oLahav's Top 100 Songs List: songs 10-1
Part 10! My best songs ever are here!
This is the tenth and final part of my very own 100 favorite
songs list. This is by no means a conclusive or significant list,
so feel free to make your own competitive list. But just because
I'd like to share my musical taste, I'm putting this right up on
LearnHub. Cool!
If you didn't catch the first few parts, here's:
Part I
Part II
Part III
Part IV
Part V
Part VI
Part VII
Part VIII
Part IX
This is it! For the past 9 weeks, every Monday, I posted a section of the list, with 10 of my favourite songs. Sure, a few songs got left out, but I know I had a great time finding out my top picks and even gaining some new favourites! The experience taught me a lot about myself, and I recommend anyone who likes music to start their own list and go through their top 100, it's a very rewarding process.
The following 10 songs are, one by one, my personal favourite songs. Each song here is better than the next, and unlike the rest of my list, this part is in order. I've had these songs down before I started the list, although it took a bit of tweaking (one song had to be shifted to #11), but looking at this I really feel that this is it, my top 10. I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I have.
And now, it's time. Let's finish this! The top 10:
Song 10: No
Rain, by Blind Melon.
I'm a rain person. I hate the sun, but when it gets cloudy and rain
falls down, I thrive. Rain people have to love this song, there's
no other way. We're all a little alone, and we're all a little
insane, and we're all looking for that someone who'll be there. It
odd how a simple song can be so beautiful, and capture life so
perfectly, at least for me. Here is the clip
of this great song.

Song 9:
Hold Me, Fleetwood Mac.
Warning- the next couple of songs are kitchy love songs. Fleetwood
Mac is a band that really has some magical tunes, but none as great
as this one. Aside of the vocals (McVie and Buckingham sound so
great together), the song features one of the greatest short guitar
solos of all times, if not the greatest. A love song that means a
lot to me, Hold Me is easily a person favourite. You have to give
it a listen, here.
Song 8: I
Can't Tell You Why, The Eagles.
Some people hate the Eagles. I don't, because after all, they have
great music. And this is the one song I thought was much better
than all the rest. Featuring Timothy B. Schmidt on vocals for the
first time, and with my favourite guitar solo, this song has it
all. The lyrics are emotional and simple, and I don't know about
you, but I connect to them on several levels. Amazing, that's all
it is. Here is a superb
live version very similar to the one I saw last week! They were
awesome live.
Song 7: You
Can't Always Get What You Want, by the Rolling Stones.
I may be wrong, but I think the Stones win in terms of number of
songs in my list. And this one is better than all of them. I've
liked this song long before it was featured on recent movies and TV
shows (like House, which I am a fan of actually). Because it's
true- you can't always get what you want, but if you try hard
enough, you'll come close and get what you really need. Whenever
I'm depressed, this song just cheers me up like nothing else can.
Check it out here.

Song 6:
Baba O'Riley, The Who.
A classic like no other. You turn up that opening segment and
people will know exactly what you're talking about. This is a power
song that's unparalleled. I don't really care what it's about-
escaping, formulating your own life, whatever, it's got teenage
spirit all over it and for generations people grew up with this
song in mind, I know I did. If you didn't start humming it already,
give it a listen over here.
Are you with me so far? We've arrived at the top 5!
Song 5:
Don't Bring Me Down, from the Electric Light Orchestra.
I had to put it a song that's just for fun, and this is it. Any
respectable ELO fan will admit- it may
not be their true sound, but the incredible beat is so funky it's
hard to resist. So yes, of course there's an ELO song in here, but you may not have been expecting
this one. Either way, I'll take it, because it's fun, and sometimes
that's all you're really looking for. Here is some
crazy-hair fun.
Song 4:
Gone, U2.
Here's the U2 song you've been looking for. We've actually gone
through a full circle, and we're back to Pop. Throughout my life,
I've been leaving people and people left me. That's the way things
work, but more so for me than some people, because I never really
stayed too long in one place. I've stumbled upon this song one day,
and it's struck me ever since- the perfect, absolutely perfect,
goodbye song. Emotional, yes, great lyrics, but the thing that's
most striking is the siren-like sounds that for me represent the
pain I've experienced. Not many songs can transmit such a feeling,
and this one… here is the best
live version ever.

Can you feel the pressure? Top 3 coming up
Song 3:
Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd.
Although you may disagree, I believe this song is a level above
Comfortably Numb, Another Brick, and ever other Pink Floyd song for
that matter. The opening tune (which I can sort of play on guitar
now!) just opens up a portal to memories. I bet you every person
who hears this song gets reminded of somebody important. I do every
time, which is why I can't listen to it too often, it's actually
that strong. The solos are amazing, but it's the simplicity
together with the metaphors in the lyrics that drive this song into
#3. Here
is the renowned Live 8 version.
Song 2: My
Friends, by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
This may be a slightly unlikely choice, but I stand by it. From an
album that's certainly not their best, without John, this song
stems from pure emotion. If you've dealt with depression or
depressed friends (or both), you'll understand the deep meaning of
this. And with a simple message of love at the end, this is what
rock is about, years after the hippie period, it can still be
found. You have to check it out, here.
Song 1: In
My Life, The Beatles.
If I die tomorrow, this is the song I want them to play in my
funeral. This song is, in my opinion, perfect. The melodies are
simple and yet have so much meaning. The lyrics are very general,
but every person can feel them in with their own memories and
meanings. This is what really makes a song more than a song, more
than sounds arranged in a nice peaceful order, it's a force, it's
energy, it's alive. And it rocks. Here it is, song
#1.

So, this is it- the list is now over. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did.
